Day 6

Read Leviticus 26:3-13

Let’s reflect for a moment, over the course of Leviticus, God has dealt with the sin that was separating His people from Him. He created the sacrificial system, the day of atonement, He laid out how they were to remain clean and pure. On top of all this, we have the laws given to them in Exodus. The book closes with a call to faithfulness, Moses is reminding the Israelites that if they follow God and obey Him, things will go well for them.

God promises three things to them if they will obey him. The first is provision, He will provide for them by sending rain for their crops, so they have plenty to eat. The second is protection, He will grant peace in the land so that they Israelites don’t have to be afraid. God even says He’ll give them victory over their enemies. Lastly, God promises His presence if they will obey Him.

Leviticus 26:12
“I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.”

The Israelites have so much to gain, simply if they are obedient to God. However, as we’ll see for the remainder of the Old Testament…the problem of sin persists. God’s people don’t naturally obey Him, they have a heart problem that stems from Genesis 3. Their nature is to continue to rebel against God, even when it costs them God’s provision, protection and presence. Today, we no longer carry the burden of our obedience granting us all of these things from God. But rather, we trust in Christ’s obedience through faith. This is why the gospel is so good and God is so gracious, even when it gains us everything and costs us practically nothing, we choose sin and rebellion over God. It’s our nature, but now we can have access to the presence of God, He is our provider and protector through what Jesus has done.

Questions to consider.
Jesus said “It is finished” on the cross.  Are there things and sins that sometimes you keep going back to things that should be finished by the work of the cross?

What do you need to implement in your life to help you walk in obedience? Accountability? Consistency in youth group or Bible reading? Changing your friends? Etc.

Ask Jesus that He would give you the strength to walk in obedience. That you would desire godly things and good things and run from sinful or bad things. Ask Him to change your heart help you follow Him.
