Part 1 - Day 6

Read Exodus 15:1-21

God has defeated the Egyptians right in front of the Israelites, they cross the Red Sea unscathed, and their response is to worship God. This is their way of giving God all the glory for what just happened. Remembering that they didn’t rescue themselves, but that God rescued them. This song would become their anthem, no matter where they were or what they were facing, they could look back on this moment where the Lord fought for them and rescued them out of an impossible situation. This would become a reminder that He is able to do immeasurably more for them, and that they only need to trust Him.

Exodus 15:2
“The Lord is my strength and my defense;
he has become my salvation.
He is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Worship should be a reminder for us that we are not in control of our lives, and we are not at
the center of our lives, God is. No matter where you are in life or what you are facing, worship
can be a reminder to you that the same God who rescued you from your sin into eternal glory is
still fighting for you today. He is worthy of all the praise that you could ever bring, simply
because of who He is. One of my favorite parts about worshipping together in a church service,
is that it reminds me to take my eyes off of myself and my circumstances and give God the glory He deserves. This is a reminder that I need often.

Today, I want to keep this devotional short and encourage you to spend some time in personal
worship. Grab your phone, maybe go to a computer, or ask for your parents’ phone. Play some
worship music and spend time setting your focus on God. Reflect on how good He is, how
powerful and mighty He is and how He is deserving of all the praise and glory you could ever
bring, regardless of what your current situation looks like. God is your strength and defense
when life is crushing you and He was and still is your salvation when you needed saving.

Questions to consider.
1. How does worship affect the posture of your heart and your attitude?

2. Do you naturally spend time worshipping God outside of church services? How can you
spend more time worshipping through songs and praises?
