Part 1 - Day 2

Read Exodus 3:1-10

The burning bush moment in Exodus chapter 3 is a pivotal moment in the history of the
Israelites for understanding who this God is and how we should relate to Him. As God appears
to Moses in a burning bush, he is given some strict instructions from God to take his sandals off
before he comes any closer.

Exodus 3:5-6
““Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are
standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at
God.”

God tells Moses the reasoning for this request is because the place Moses is standing is “holy
ground”. The word holy means “to be set apart” or “to be different”. God is saying that the land
Moses is standing on is special, unique, and different than any other land. To be clear, it’s not
actually the land that is special, unique, and different, it is the presence of God that changes it.
This is who our God is, His very presence takes a normal piece of ground and makes it holy. So
holy, in fact, that He must command Moses to take his dirty sandals off before he even steps
onto the ground.

The same presence that made a normal piece of ground holy and set apart dwells in you and I
today. God’s presence turns our normal lives into something unique, special, and set apart from
anything else around us. He brings peace beyond understanding, joy that supersedes
circumstances and the ability to not only witness but participate in the miraculous that God
wants to do through you!

The end of this section reveals a beautiful truth to us. Exodus 3:7 reads “The Lord said, “I have
indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their
slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.” God assures the Israelites that He has
heard their cries, seen their misery and he is concerned about their suffering. No matter what
you are walking through today, you have a God that sees you, hears you and cares about the
things you are struggling with. Cry out to Him and trust that He has an open ear to you! God
saw your suffering and misery carrying the weight of your own sin and He placed that burden
upon His son, Jesus Christ so that you could be set free!

Questions to consider.

1. How has the presence of God impacted or changed your life?

2. What is different about your life because the presence of God dwells in you?

3. How can you let the cross be a reminder that God sees you, hears you and cares about
your situation and struggles?
