Fasting Devotion Day 11
READ
“And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.” Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.””
Matthew 17:14-21 NKJV
THINK
I have to admit that I really resonate with this story. We have the disciples who are empowered and entrusted by Jesus to do His supernatural work. I believe that their faith is genuine but Jesus suggests that their commitment to prayer and fasting is not. At times we are tempted to believe that sanctification is an automatic process but in truth it requires tremendous work. Jesus freely paid the price but He expects us to daily pick up our cross and follow Him.
The exciting truth in this story is that as we trust and follow Him in faith nothing is impossible! Christ has called us at Ignite to be mountain moving world changing supernatural beings who live in this world but not be of it. Ignite let us live in our calling and walk with Jesus and we will see mountains move!
Be honest. What area of your life is similar to the father of the story where you believe but struggle to believe at the same time?
If God gave you the power to “move mountains” in other words do something truly great in His name for His glory; what would you do with that power? Now that you’ve locked that down how can you make a difference in that area of ministry with the power you have in this moment?
PRAY
Let our prayer today be a powerful but simple one. Lord I believe, help me unbelief. Today we pray that as a part of the body of Christ we will be a church that constantly is growing in faith and obedience!
