Step Up, Day 47: What are you afraid of?
READ Judges 7:19-22 (NKJV)
19 So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outpost of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just as they had posted the watch; and they blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers that were in their hands.
20 Then the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers–they held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands for blowing–and they cried, “The sword of the LORD and of Gideon!”
21 And every man stood in his place all around the camp; and the whole army ran and cried out and fled.
22 When the three hundred blew the trumpets, the LORD set every man’s sword against his companion throughout the whole camp; and the army fled to Beth Acacia, toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel Meholah, by Tabbath.
This is one of the stories those Bible stories that is a little hard to believe at first. Gideon and his brave 300 men surround the camp of the Midianites. At the signal that Gideon gives, they reveal themselves and cry out with passion to their God. At that moment God takes control of the battle and the enemy is so terrified of Israel, and their God they start randomly attacking one another, completely destroying themselves.
It’s an amazing example how powerful God is. It also shows how powerful our fears can be. The enemy that Gideon was facing was far more powerful than him but they weren’t stronger then their own fears and all of a sudden the molehill that was Gideon, became a mountain in their life. It can be easy to allow fears to take small things in life, and make them seem impossibly large. Gideon and his men were able to win this battle because they had their eyes on God, while the enemy they faced had eyes clouded with fear. How would God describe your eyes today?
In today’s prayer time, take your fears to God, and truly lay them at his feet.
– Are you afraid about your financial situation? Take it to our God!
– Are you afraid you will always be alone? Our God is powerful to bear that burden!
– Are you afraid you’re going to miss God’s plan for your life? Our God promises give wisdom to those who seek it.
Today spend at least 5 to 10 minutes of your prayer time taking your fears to the father Allow Him to transform mountains into pebbles swept away by his love and power.
